Your position
As one of the volunteers for European Youth Activism, you will support the office team in organising international youth encounters, seminars and educational activities. You will have the opportunity to contribute your experience and creativity to our events for young people from all over Europe and to our international network of youth organisations. You will learn a lot about youth activism, event management, partnerships and promotion activities. By working with many international partners and supporting the SAME network, you will regularly exchange ideas with young people from different European countries. You will take an active role in the dissemination of the Solidarity Action Day and will inform and inspire young people about our work.
We offer two European Youth Activism volunteer positions in our Lübeck office team:
- Focus on European networking & Spreading the Solidarity Action Day Initiative (engaging with SAME network and bodies, promoting SAD)
- Focus on organising international youth encounters and educational activities (trainings, conferences, events)
Both volunteers work closely together, share tasks in publicity and communication, and live together in a furnished apartment provided by SHL.
You will closely collaborate with your co-volunteers and the staff members of the Lübeck office who will support you in all your activities. You will also have the opportunity to gain insights into the work of the other SHL offices in Germany and work together with your co-volunteers in SHL's office in Neumünster (Northern Germany), who organise the Solidarity Action Day in Germany and Bosnia & Herzegovina office.
Your tasks
Some of the tasks you will do are:
- support in planning, implementing, and evaluating international youth encounters including the Act.ival for Future, which is our big international youth conference with more than 200 young participants from all over Europe
- spreading the concept of the Solidarity Action Day across Europe, including acquisition, promotion and networking activities and organising Start-Up Seminars for interested youth organisations and initiatives from Europe
- supporting SAME bodies and member organisations, e.g. by organising activities, workshops or body meetings
- PR and publicity work, including social media work and promotion activities for our events and youth encounters
- maintaining and expanding our network of local and European partners and youth initiatives
You are a great fit if you...
- are 18 years or older
- are excited about youth participation, Europe, and social engagement
- enjoy working in a team and meeting new people
- are curious, creative, and motivated
- show reliability, responsibility and strong communication skills
- have empathy and openness towards others
- have some experience in volunteering or youth participation (e.g. student councils, youth groups, NGOs)
- have experience in facilitating workshops (a plus, not required)
- bring basic technical skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Canva)
- speak English well (German is welcome but not required)
- have flexibility (some activities may take place on weekends)
- have willingness for personal growth in a dynamic and international working environment
Even though the job profiles of the three volunteer positions in Lübeck cover a wide range of activities, experience is not needed in all of them. The individual activities will also be redistributed within the team according to personal interests and skills. We especially consider the voluntary service as an opportunity for individual and personal development.
You should be a young person who is 18 years or older when starting the service, and you should have a very good command of English; knowledge of German is considered beneficial but is not required. We will financially and organizationally care for a perspective of gaining further language skills in German before and during the voluntary service.

Applications for the voluntary service positions, starting mid-July 2026 until mid-August 2027, are open.
The button will lead you to the SHL website, where you will find further details and the application form.
