Workshop title: Racism and Roma Resistance

Roma are the largest ethnic minority in Europe. They have been fighting persecution and discrimination for centuries. Taking the pogrom against Roma in Rostock-Lichtenhagen in August 1992 as an example, we will look at the history and effects of racism against Roma as well as examples of resistance, self-organization and political struggles. Finally, we will discuss how racist acts of violence can be appropriately commemorated today.
