Registrations for our online seminar “Democracy in Europe – under pressure” taking place February 19-21, 2021 are open now!

About the event

Nationalism and populism are no new phenomena anymore. And yet, societies in Europe are under a new wave of threats, being challenged by radical movements and populist media questioning fundamental values of diversity, democracy and political freedom across the continent, from Western to Eastern Europe. Not to forget, democracy has not even reached all areas of Europe, seeing that people still have to fight for basic rights in many places. Civil society and young people hold an important role in countering these anti-democracy, anti-European, anti-diversity, and anti-migration tendencies.

In the seminar, let's discuss this: What is a functioning democracy to you? How do you envision a society in which everyone, especially young people, can make their voice heard? And how endangered are fundamental values and basic human rights in Europe? Finally, what can we do about it?

This seminar is part of our European Solidarity Seminar series. Read more about upcoming Solidarity Seminars here:  www.same-network.org/european-solidarity-seminars.

The event is organised by our member organisation Schüler Helfen Leben (SHL) in co-operation with SAME. SHL is the biggest relief organization led by young people in Germany and one of the founding members of SAME. SHL supports youth and education projects in Southeastern Europe, Jordan and Germany in the areas of antidiscrimination, youth activism and support of refugees.
