Workshop title: Endometriosis as a political issue - The basics of political lobbyism and strategic political narratives for citizen initiatives for gender health  by the example of  endometriosis

Endometriosis is a political issue.

Endometriosis affects 190 million people worldwide. Tissue, similar to that of the womb, is growing on different organs. The consequences range from severe menstrual pain to infertility. As of now there is nor cure for the disease and patients are chronically ill. Even though the disease is one of the most widespread applications, there is shockingly low awareness and political action and it takes patients on average 10 years to get diagnosed.

This is why the German Endometriosi Association launched the projet Endo.Politically Active: To collect the interest of endometriosis patients and communicate problems and solutions to political stakeholders. It is simply a lobby-organization for endometriosis patients which since its inception in 2021 achieved significant milestones such as increasing federal research funding by several orders of magnitude to 20 Million Euros and putting it on the agenda of state and federal parliaments and major political parties.

But how do you successfully conduct lobby work? Is that even ethical and does it not cost a fortune? And what can citizens do?

In this session we will answers all these questions covering the political issue of endometriosis and diving into the basics of strategic lobbyism.
